KIDS PLAYHOUSE

Cool Ideas For Kids Playhouses

By Dennis Montgomery

There is just something about having a playhouse as a kid that is hard to describe. They are a place to escape and have fun. An outdoor playhouse is like a magnet for all the neighbor kids to come and play in. So what are some of the types of children's playhouses? Here's a look.

Cardboard Playhouses - These are the most basic of playhouses for sure. Do you remember as a child how you would take a large cardboard box and pretend it was your secret place or fort?

You can take this a step further by getting one of those heavy duty and thick cardboard boxes to build a playhouse. Cut windows into it, paint it, etc. Let your imagination go and you are sure to be a hit with children of all ages.

Outdoor Playhouses - The sky is the limit when it comes to these. You can purchase a plastic playhouse for $50, or spend tens of thousands on a massive structure fit for a king!

A playhouse can be made with one, two or more rooms, have real windows, a door, and even running water.

You can also find theme playhouses that your child may enjoy. From a princess castle to a pirate ship, there is always a design available to fill any idea you may have.

The best tip here is to consider building a playhouse yourself. You can find detailed plans to make the entire process simple and easy to complete.

Better yet, make it a family project and let the kids help. Not only is it a lot more fun, but also it teaches them how to build something and gives them a memory that will last a lifetime!

KID'S DRESS

Fun Kids Aprons
By Katie Willis

Now it's a basic tendency of a child to imitate elders isn't it? You should not lose your patience but just let them be and do whatever they want to freely. Keep your eye on them, keep a check, and for that you just have to include some measures. If you are mother and you are working in your kitchen and you have to have your kid around, and then do that and don't prevent your child from coming into the kitchen but help you cook! Kids' aprons are available in plenty.

You can make them look fun and not only in the kitchen but putting an apron on your kid will serve multiple purposes and you don't have to worry about mess and stains on your kid's dress.

Purposes they serve

When you are using such kids aprons then make sure to have it look funny and attractive because the more you attract your kid he would develop an affinity towards an activity. That way will save you sometime not wondering about what mischief he is playing. Aprons are important as it would save the clothes and save you from fighting hard with the stains.

There are various shapes, sizes and forms of aprons and they are usable for a very long time. if your child has a tendency towards the kitchen the fun aprons would work wonders, or if he wants to play with colors then get hold of waterproof aprons just in case he makes it wet. While coloring, playing with mud or things which may lay a stain on your kid's clothes such aprons would successfully reduce the chances of mess.

Types available

Children's aprons can be creatively made and can also be had fun with. Since you use an apron to put stains on them you might as well splash them with colors just to make your child happy. If your child refuses to wear aprons then what you can do is get hold of personalized aprons where their names or nicknames may be printed so that they can relate to the object better and think it is theirs.

Primarily because your concern is to keep the clothes clean, making your child wear an apron is also an initiation of good manners that a child has to learn from the very beginning. If you are wondering where you would find interesting kids aprons then you can shop online and choose by criteria and also have one specially made or ordered.

Your choice

If your child wants something fancy then it would be best if you make a designed apron, and you should take care of getting your kid a good quality apron. Be sure that your kid does not open the knot.

With kid aprons you can mend their habit, and you can also team it up with a chef hat depending on your child's activity. You can get your child's picture printed on it so that it looks all the more attractive. Get all the fun with aprons!

CREATIVE KIDS

Creativity in Children - 3 Ways to Boost Your Child's Creative Intelligence
By Joanne Froh

All babies are born with the ability to think creatively, that's a given. But what we do as parents can either help or hinder this ability to flourish in our children as they grow. And flourish it must! For creativity and imagination are much more than artistic expression and play. They are the tools used to form mental images and thoughts of what has never been actually experienced. And for kids, that means just about everything!

Imagination, daydreams, games of make-believe. These are the cornerstones of curiosity, intellectual inventiveness, and ambition. And they are the tools kids use to tryout different scenarios -- explore the what-ifs before they act, which in turn allows them to foresee consequences and make good choices. Vital in today's world.

But as natural as it is, creativity is a use-it-or-lose-it kind of thing. If not exercised on a regular basis, it tends to fade; become harder to tap into. As adults running the rat race, we know this to be true. And when you consider the busy, technology-filled lives of today's children -- with everything coming "at" them rather than from within them -- you realize what little workout their imaginations are getting.

However, all is not lost. As a parent, there are several things you can do to intercede, slow things down, and allow your child to exercise and strengthen their creative capacity. None are complicated or expensive, but they will require a certain stick-to-it-ness when it comes to tuning-out the inevitable: There's nothing to do! refrain. But rest assured, employing even just one or two of these tactics is well worth the effort.

So here are three things you can do now to boost your child's creative intelligence:

Limit the number of toys that depend upon following step-by-step instructions
Instead, focus on those with open-ended purpose. For instance, when selecting Lego's or Tinker Toys, go for the original collection of random pieces rather than the kits predestined to become something specific. Although the picture on the box may be cool and enticing (Johnny loves pirates!), it is the process of figuring out -- through trial, error, and visualization -- how to make something from nothing that exercises the imagination and strengthens problem-solving skills. Besides, for most people, there's more joy and pride in realizing one's own vision than replicating someone else's.

Put out the crayons and leave them out
Ask any artist and they'll tell you: having a studio, a place to create art where you don't need to haul things out or clean-up afterward, is practically essential. Why? Because out of sight is out of mind, and the prospect of having to put things away when you're done is often enough to stop a creative urge in its tracks.

So find a corner, preferably a low coffee table so the kids can sit on the floor. And on that table, leave out crayons, pencils and a big stack of blank paper. Ideally this should be in the room where the family gathers, where children spend most of their time. That way, drawing will become as spontaneous as any other form of entertainment. No need to make a big project of it. Ten minutes here, a half-hour there. The length is not important, nor is the quality of the output. The point is to make the tools of creative expression visible and enticing; so they beacon to your child from across the room. And to make satisfying their urge easy. No permission needed, no clean-up required.

Limit the visual entertainment and let their mind be still
Being able to visualize or see something in the mind's eye is one of our greatest gifts. It's called daydreaming, and it's not only pleasurable, it is a vital component of higher-level thinking. But when the eyes are fully occupied, as they are when watching TV, texting, or playing video and computer games, visualization cannot take place. The eyes are busy. The brain is busy. And despite the common belief that people are good at multi-tasking, the reality is, our eyes are incapable of being fully engaged with two things at once. We are either consciously watching what's going on in front of us, or we are tuned-into and watching the picture being created in our mind, but not both.

So flip off the switch, put on some music and let them lie on the couch or floor with nothing but space or darkness before their eyes. Send them outside with nothing to do. Encourage them to lie flat on the grass, stare at the sky, contemplate the underside of trees. And for goodness sake, turn off every electronic visual distraction in the car and let them stare out the window at the passing world.

Will they be bored? Let's hope so. For only in boredom do the eyes disengage from what's before them and allow the mind to conger up its own images. And guaranteed, whatever "movie" your child creates and watches in their mind's eye, they will be the star, the director, or both at once. And to that we can all say: Bravo!

FAT CHILDREN

Tips With Handling Obesity In Young Children by E Knouse

Obesity in young children from two years up into the teenage years is so frightening. Today in America thousand of small children can hardly walk, clothes are very hard to find for them. It is so very sad to see a young child who can not walk or run or play because of so much fat on them. Something must be done about this and now, it is not getting better either.

Many doctors blame the parents for this epidemic. They do not introduce the right kinds of foods to their children when they are small and are usually willing to try new food. Children crave the discipline that it takes to manage their food intake. Even the young children know they are different than other children. Weight loss programs for these small children must be done from home. No one can tell parents what to feed their children, but they must take the responsibility of their children's eating habits. They are too young to do it themselves.

Portion sizes are the best way to start weight loss in these young children. When feeding a toddler is about a quarter of what an adult eats. Young school children or preschoolers portion should be no more than a third of what an adult eats. Fix them good wholesome foods now and they will carry those eating habits throughout their lives. Try not to let them have second portions; their weight loss will be undone for sure. If they still think they are hungry, give them more vegetables and or fruits. Many young children really go for fruit, bananas, apples, peaches etc. these may have sugar in them, but it is a natural sugar. Refined sugars are the worst enemy in weight loss, no matter how old you are.

Start your young children out with good healthy snacks. Kids need to eat almost all the time. If you start them out very young, they will more and likely stick to the snacks you have made or provided for them. Have a set snack time for them this will help in their weight loss. Make these snacks small, it is after all a snack, not a full meal. If you can, make their snacks for them. Try not to buy them from the grocery store. You do not know what's in them and they are probably no good. An occasional cookie or an ice cream cone will not hurt the weight loss but limit that to maybe once a week or so. Do not give small children snacks right before bedtime.

For a weight loss program give the kids options, but not too many. Two is usually the norm. They will feel like big the big people. Parents please take heed. Your young children need a weight loss program now, if they are over weight or obese. You will be killing them if you do not start now.

CHILD NUTRITION

Overview of Child Nutrition Facts
By Mark H Long

Child nutrition is one of the most critical and confusing aspect when it comes to healthcare. Countless parents are confused about what to give their children and what not to give, and many of them err at the side of discretion, finally ending up not giving their children the right kind of nutrition, something that they want and should have. Here is an overview of child nutrition facts that every parent and guardian should know.

To begin with, it is very important to know the health aspects of the child, as what should be and what should not be given to the child depends on their constitution. Some children might be allergic to a particular substance, while others might have a deficiency of some sort when it comes to proteins, minerals and other necessary ingredient that makes a healthy child. Therefore, it is very important to have the child undergo a complete medical checkup from time to time, so the parent and guardian know what they should eat and what they should not.

Home cooked food is the best option for child nutrition, but it is also important to check that the home uses the healthiest and most nutritious ingredients and ways of cooking when it comes to the child's food. Basically, the diet that an adult would consume is much different than a child's. Also, because the child's constitution is much more delicate than an adult's, there is every chance that something that might mildly affect the adult might result in some serious repercussions for the child. Therefore, it is necessary for the family to find out which kind of foods and food preparation processes they should add in their daily diet and adhere to.

When it comes to processed and packed food, parents should be cautious about the ingredients that go into making the particular dish and processed and packaged food. Several manufacturers and brands are not very honest with the amount and types of ingredients that they use, even for children's foods, so the parent and guardian should be extra careful about what kind of packaged and processed food the kid is eating. One good way of doing this is by browsing the Internet, and finding out information on your own, about the different kinds of processed and packaged foods available in the market, and their ingredients, like mayonnaise and tomato sauce.

In many countries, there are special food programs for kids of underprivileged families. Even in first world countries, the school food program should be one of the nutritious and healthy options that the kid and the family should have for the child's food requirements. Because the children spend most of their day in the school, it is necessary that the parents monitor the food habits that are inculcated into their children in the school. Make sure that you are a PTA member or you are closely associated with the PTA, so that you have an idea of what the child is eating in the school, and what kind of options are available for them.

Mark is dedicated towards child nutrition and the various aspects related to it. He regularly uses mayonnaise and tomato sauce dishes for children in her home.

HOW TO CONCEIVE THE GIRL?

Trying to Conceive a Girl - Stop Trying Because Trying Doesn't Work
By Samantha S Williams

Are you trying to conceive a girl? If you answered yes you are at the right place. I like babies but to me newborn baby girls are like small angels. Watching them play just makes my day but a few months back I was desperately trying to conceive a girl baby but nothing was working for me, but I wasn't ready to give up yet. If you are like me then read on, and you will discover some real gems that can increase your chances conceiving a baby girl tremendously.

Timing is everything- When trying to increase your chances of getting pregnant with a girl baby you must adjust your timing a little. You must have sex 3 to 4 days before ovulating, the reason being boy producing sperms are faster but weaker in comparison to the girl producing sperm, so they will die during those 4 days in vaginal track but girl producing sperms has more chances to survive and fertilizing the egg.

I am really sorry if this tip sounds very simple but the fact is most of the things in life are simple but not easy, you must be willing to make an effort from your side. Few months back I was really depressed because I was continuously trying to conceive a girl but was not able to do so but somewhere inside I had a belief that there must be a way, and today I am a mother of a beautiful baby girl so don't loose hope as I am here to help.

СREATIVE KIDS

Kindergarten activities - creative kids math
by Megan Wong

How do you identify creative kids?

1. They are imaginative, resourceful and uninhibited.

2. They are open to new ideas and see things in a different way.

3. They are curious, alert, and adventurous and risk taking.

4. They are independent in thinking and social behavior.

5. They are inventive and good at solving problems.

6. They love challenges and are easily bored with routine and mundane tasks.

Kindergarten activities which develop creative thinking encourage the kids to think critically, using their existing knowledge to explore new ways of thinking. We can incorporate language, music or math into these activities and for this article we will discuss on using math to develop creativity.

Whenever the word math is mentioned, numbers and formulas come into the picture. Math is more than just number crunching but when it is being introduced to kids creatively, can improve skills like reasoning, logic and problem solving and also widen the kids understanding of Math to a wider scope as listed below:

1. To enable the kids to sort objects in a logical series according to size, shape or any other characteristic.

Find objects of different shapes like a book, a clock, a piece of sandwich or pizza, a photo frame, a ball, a pencil case. Put them together and ask the child to group them according to their size. For example a book is a rectangle, what other objects here are rectangle shapes.
You can invent different kindergarten activities by finding objects of different sizes or talk about animals and ask them what animals are big and small.

2. To enable the kids to understand the concept of numbers by letting them have direct experience with objects as the kids will discover that numbers are not just digits but extend to our everyday lives.

Kindergarten activities which kids under five need are songs, rhymes and finger plays that include numbers like Little Indian Boys/Girls, while singing, finger play with them, show your fingers while singing One Little, Two Little, Three Little Indians and so on.
You can also ask questions like - Mummy bought 5 apples and put them in the refrigerator yesterday. You ate one apple and Daddy ate two, so how many apples are in the refrigerator now? Allow the kids to answer and ask them to check the refrigerator to see whether they are correct.

3. To develop their spatial skills by discovering how to fit things together, take things apart, rearrange things and navigation.
Kids with well developed spatial skills are very creative, dramatic, artistic and musical. Some kindergarten activities which encourage spatial skills are playing with Lego, tangram, mazes, play dough and chess.

Engage your kids in creative thinking activities the whole day while you are preparing your meals, gardening or clearing your laundry by asking open-ended questions which are worded in such a way that there is no one correct answer. An example is while clearing your groceries asks your kids what they can do with this tomato. Open-ended questions like this engage the kids in divergent or creative thinking to come up with a whole range of brilliant and imaginative ideas.

COOL KID'S

Cool Kid's Closet Ideas

Are your kid's closets a mess? Most kids detest cleaning their room and end up throwing everything on the floor into their closets. You need to find a way to teach your small child early to take care of their toys and put them away. If you could come up with some fun kids closet ideas, you might be able to change that situation.

Kids love sports and movies and you might be able to make some sort of a themed closet around their favorite player or movie. It won't cost too much other than some creativity and elbow grease. If you turn your child's' closet into a fun place, they will like opening it up and be less likely to mess it up. Kids, like adults, treat the things they value with more care and respect. If you can get them to think of their closet as being fun or cool, it might go a long way towards them keeping it cleaner.

You might also try some colorful lighting in your child's closet. Children love lights and the right kind of lights can enhance any room as well as any closet. If you take a look at all the trendy restaurants and nightclubs, you will see that much of the atmosphere that is created is done through lighting. Putting in some interesting lights in your child's closet will get their attention and make them want to open it. The right kind of fun lights will help your child become interested in their closet.

If your child is in a room with a walk in closet you have more options to make a fun space for them to store their things. If you have the money you could splurge for a custom closet that is build by a professional company. The custom closet business is big now and there are many companies that will come to your home and design something just for you. Having them design and install something fun for your child might be a bit expensive but it could be worth it to teach your kid about being neat and respecting their things.

Some children will never be neat no matter how hard you try. Other kids are naturally neat and put away things on their own without their parents prompting. For all the kids in between those two extremes, constructing some sort of fun closet that will get their attention and feel part of their room is the best way to start training your child about being neat, clean, and taking care of the things they own.

BEDROOM

Creative Kids Bedrooms
By Sheena Witter

Your child's bedroom can be an oasis of relaxation and creativity. With a little planning and attention to detail, you can create a refuge instead of a war zone.

Turn maintaining messy bedrooms into a fun, creative family project!

Simple Steps to creating a creative kids bedroom:

1. Have your Kids take ownership of their space.

Kids will take pride and care of a space that they have put time and energy into. It is important for kids to have space to develop their own tastes and interests. This is especially vital for kids who have to share a room.

2. Have a planning pow-wow

Get your child excited about their bedroom makeover or transformation. Ask your child to visualize their new space, and what they would like in their bedrooms. Consider the colors your child likes, the activities your child likes to do, and what their favorite things/themes are.

Also, consider your child's habits. Some children are messy and need to be taught how to tidy up after themselves, which is easier if they have a space they are proud of. Some are visual and they need to have everything in view. While this can appear a mess, ask your child to find something specific: chances are they will know exactly where it is. If your child is a visual organizer (and most are), you need to devise a different plan for storage and organization. Some children respond to color-coding and some find it easier if there are different areas devoted solely to one activity. Talk to your child and experiment to find a system that works for both of you.

3. Create a Kid friendly Space

Painting is a time consuming laborious process. Kids also frequently change their tastes. Instead, ask the child to select a theme or a color they love and work together to find and create accents that will allow your child's personality to shine through.

Work with your child to create activity zones in their bedrooms. If your child loves to read, provide a comfortable chair and a good reading light. If your child likes to dress-up, create a place to keep all the clothing and props tidy and easily accessible. If your child loves Lego, designate an area for building and an area for storage. They key is to create a space that allows for easy storage, access and cleanup.

As an added bonus, if your child has his own designated space for activities, there is less chance of spillover into the rest of the house!

Create a vision board/ inspiration wall. This feature will grow with your child. Allow space on one wall to be used as a visual representation of your child's hopes, dreams, goals, and inspirations. Set up a whiteboard, a chalkboard, or a cork board for older children. Encourage kids to use this space however they like, to draw pictures, decorate with art they made or appreciate, or make notes of things they want to do or learn. As children are primarily visual, this is a wonderful way for them to express themselves and keep motivated.

4. Set some ground rules:

Work with your child to create some ground rules. If your child feels like they have some input, they will have an easier time sticking with the rules. Naturally, the earlier you start, the easier this is. Here are a few suggestions:

One Activity at a time - this is very important in creative households. It is very easy to be swept away by inspiration and allow many things left unfinished. This is okay; however, make it a point to always clean up from one activity before starting another. This takes only a few minutes and is much easier than facing it all at the end of the day.
Tidy up Time - Especially suitable for young children; make cleaning up into a game. Give children a warning a few minutes prior so they are not surprised when it is time to clean up (this helps ward off temper tantrums) and then start the tidy-up game. Tell the child or children that you have selected one piece of garbage (or toy). They have one or two minutes (depending on how big the mess is) to rush around the room and put as much garbage as possible into the wastebasket (or put toys away). Start the timer and all clean up together. This makes cleaning up fun and something the children look forward too.
One In, One Out, Permanently - This is a wonderful rule that will bring an end to overflowing rooms and allows children to learn the value of their things. The concept is simple, for every new toy or book or clothing your child gets (this is up to you), one must be removed. Ask your child what they would like to do with their old items. There are many possibilities. Donate to children's hospitals, churches, women's shelters, libraries. Look into the options in your area. Go and visit these places with your child. It will open their eyes and allow them to see how fortunate they are. Once they have made a decision, get as involved as possible. You will make quite an impact if your child is able to see how much joy their old things can bring to a child in need.
No TV or Computers - There are numerous studies and statistics warning against putting a television in your child's bedroom. Television can't be used in a constructive, educational way if you have no way of monitoring the programs or how much your child watches. It can also be highly disruptive to sleep patterns. To quote an article in the National Post:
"Researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who analyzed data for 2,707 children found 5 year olds are more likely to have behavior problems, disturbed sleep and 'less emotional reactivity' if they have a television in their bedroom than those with TV-free rooms."5. Get creative!

In this process, you can find many opportunities to get creative and bond with your child.

At every age level, kids can get involved and be an active creator in designing a space they will be excited to call their own. All children will want to be involved in the important decisions such as layout, color, and adding personality. Younger children can help in all aspects of putting the room together as well as making arts and crafts in their chosen colors for decoration. Older children can do all of the above, but you could also give them a budget to work with to buy a few new things for their bedroom. See how creative they can get with their money. Shop in unconventional places (craft stores, thrift stores, online) and try to use items in new and creative ways.

Encourage your child to think outside the box. Adapt the theater sports game "Anything BUT..." into your shopping. For example, if you are looking at a coat rack say this is anything BUT a coat rack: challenge your child and yourself to think of as many other uses for it as you can. You might be surprised at the great ideas you come up with!

Not all of these things have to be done in one day. This should be an ongoing process, which allows for great creativity and imagination.

Turning your child's boring bedroom into a creative haven will give you countless hours of quality time and allow children to begin to develop their own personal style and identity.

JEALOUSY OF ANGELS

Introducing The New Baby To Siblings
by Julian Hall

They can be confused or upset over their mothers hospitalization or not understand why she is tired and cannot play as much as usual. These feelings are only amplified by feelings of jealousy over why the new baby is receiving so much attention. This is why it is so very important for parents to find ways to reassure siblings that theyre loved and valued and to help them come to terms with the fact that there is another member of the family who also needs care.
There are ways to minimize this transition to help soothe older children and make them feel more a part of things during the first few months at home with the new baby:
Prepare older children in advance of the birth. Get them excited about the event, and have them be active participants in preparing the nursery.
Have the siblings visit the new baby and mum in the hospital.
Have special gifts for the siblings that are from the baby.
Dedicate some time every day to be alone with each sibling.
When taking photos of the baby, also take some of the siblings.
Ask grandparents or other close relatives to spend special time with the siblings-perhaps a special outing to the park, zoo or out to lunch.
Have your siblings pitch in with caring for the baby.
Stay positive, and understand that a new baby is also a big transition for your older children.

Growing up together
Sibling rivalry sometimes increases with age. Older children may only begin to show annoyance when the baby starts to be mobile and snatches their toys or interfering with their games. And a younger child may be jealous when her big brother or sister starts school.
You may find your children go through stages - they may be great friends at one age, then fall out all the time at another. This is quite normal.
If you think your children will never get along, it's better not to force them together. It might be better to let them have separate friends and activities.
If at all possible each child in a family should have somewhere that is all her own. If space is tight, this could be a drawer or a box - somewhere to keep private treasures.
Avoid making comparisons between your children, especially if one is receiving a lot of praise. This favouritism can make them too competitive, and may cause distress to one child if the other is constantly held up as an example.
