KIDS AND CELL PHONE

How to Protect Your Kids From Cell PhoneDangers
By Herb Leibacher

Cell phones are everywhere. One thing that seems to be more and more prevalent these days is how more and more kids seem to be using cell phones. Not only are kids talking on cell phones, but they're using them to text, browse the Internet, and sometimes even watch TV and videos.

This may not seem like a big deal, but the problem that arises with kids using their own mobile phones is how most kids are not monitored when they're using them. Okay, you might be thinking I'm a responsible parent and I've taught my kids what's right and wrong. They won't do anything inappropriate with their cell phone. Think again.

Your kid could be looking at crazy, weird movies that are too "grown-up" for them with you even in the room. That's how advanced mobile phones are nowadays - they are basically personal computers that fit in your hand.

So now you might be thinking, how do I figure out what my kid is doing on his or her mobile phone? What you need to do is monitor their cell phone usage. Ask to see their mobile phone, take it from them, and just start looking at everything that you can. Who did they text, what did they write about in their texts? What sites did they visit in their browsing history (assuming they have Internet access)? What videos did they watch? If you find something that you don't like, then you need to talk to them about it right away before it escalates into something worse.

If your kid is more technology advanced then you and has found a way to delete all this information off their cell phone, then you can take the monitoring of their mobile phone a step further. Contact your cell phone provider to get all of the above information. Many cellular providers can offer you information like who your kid called, how long they talked, etc.

You might not want to spy on your kid, yet, you're doing it for all the right reasons to protect them from something that could lead them down the wrong path.

And, if your kid seems to be using their mobile phone too much, then it's probably time them to take at time out from it. This might not be all that popular to begin with, but when you do give it back to your kid, it will probably be that much more appreciated.

Ultimately, mobile phones are here to stay. More and more kids are using them nowadays. Make sure your kid is kept safe by monitoring what they do on their cell phone. It's not spying and it's not intrusive. It's just the smart thing to do.
